Huh. Okay. Just got a call from the tallship peoples. The ship has been dry-docked in Hull over the past month, and was meant to be sailed down to Porthsmouth. This didn't, for some reason, work out, and Stavros is still in Hull.

So they've arranged a mini-bus to pick us up in Porthsmouth and bring us to Hull, something like a 5-hour drive apparently.

I'm not sure how I feel about this. It adds quite a few seamiles to our voyage, at least a good day's sailing from the looks of it. This means that we'll have a longer distance to cover in our 10 sailing days, which probably means a bit more motor sailing to keep to schedule. I'm not much for motor sailing.

It also gives me another problem: books. I had hoped to take a bunch of ebooks on my Palm, but it's in repairs. However, a 5-hour bus journey is too much to handle without reading material... and taking books means carrying the weight and volume.

So. I've found the addresses of a few 2nd hand/charity bookshops I can try to find in the 2 hours I'll have the time in Porthsmouth. I hope to find some cheap, fun books to read on the bus and onship, but not so fun or interesting that I'll want to take them home afterward...

Which is a problem. Almost everything I find worth reading I find worth buying. So unless there's bookstores stocked with books I already own..

On the upside, the journey from Porthsmouth to Hull takes me through a part of the country I've never seen, and is said to be quite scenic.
