Snake questions
Jan. 19th, 2009 06:39 pmFor you other snake keepers here - did your snakes get calmer in your hands as they got older? Vee spend 98% of the time curled up in his washcloth, but when I get him out to play on my hands, he's super active and jumpy. I spread a large towel over my knees so that I don't risk losing him on the floor when he startles me, and if he's on the table I can't pick him up or he becomes super-speedy snake and heads off. I can lift him up when he crawls over my fingers but then he keeps going at quite a speed, never calming down. When he startles, he will literally jump away. Quite startling and I worry about dropping/loosing him!
Is he likely to get more relaxed being handled? And less jumpy in general? I thought that most cornsnakes could get at ease to the point where they'd sit quietly in your hands. He's also jumpy in his tank - If he's about to come out of his perch and I walk by, he disappears back into it.
