One of my recent favourites... sorry for the non-Dutch, but this one just loses it all in translation.

I get the feeling I'm missing something in the meanings of 'eb' and 'zeer'

'eb' means low tide
'zeer' is hurt, pain

You can translate the meaning, but my translation completely lost the beauty of the language itself. It's very simple, but that last line always grabs me by the throat. A sea has no hurt.

Ah, I knew it would be something like that. Babelfish insisted it was 'very' and the van dale's in the shed. :)

That is very similar to a famous Croatian poem about the sea (which also relies on rhythms and alliterations) but if I tried to translate it it'd not look good in English either.
