We're kind-of sort-of looking at dogs. Not to take one, according to my parents. Just... looking.

Saw a lot of Kooiker-dogs today (Dutch breed). Cute, but many were a little too much lapdog and too little active-dog-to-take-cycling-and-riding kind. We liked the larger types though. The differences in behaviour were very diverse, from bouncing and licking "Hi-who-are-you-will-you-stroke-me" to very reserved "look-don't-touch" and one even growled at my father. Many, many dogs looked too heavy to us, in need of a little less food and a good cycle every day. The one dog that really appealed to us was usually found 'too thin' by the breed-organisation, according to the owner. It looked good and healthy to us.

Have now taken an interest in Icelandic dogs, which is a breed that's a nice size, a bit more robust than the Kooikers, of gentle character and very lovely. A huge advantage is that these are not hunters. Considering that any dog of us would spend time walking loose in and near the forest, a lack of tendency to disappear after the local wildlife is good.

They also look utterly adorably woolly as a pup... And they go well with cats, or so I'm told.

*melts*

But we're not getting a dog. Apparently.

I don't know about .nl but, in the UK, horses that do well in showing classes are normally horribly overweight. So much so that 'show condition' is now a euphemism for 'your horse is a right porker'. Looks like it's the same with dogs...

*nodnod* true indeed, but I have little to do with show horses really. I'm working with the endurance variety now, and while they are by the general public considered 'thin' we like to say 'lean' and know this is actually an excellent condition to be in!

It's not like it is actually that difficult to slim down a horse or a dog a bit. Cats, now that's harder. You can't take those for a long walk...

Exactly! There's a difference between 'lean' and 'thin'.

And you're right on the cats... One of ours is a porker and the other is skinny. We can't even put the fat one on a diet or he just eats the skinny one's food.

The one with the cat is _so_ cute, but then again I'm biased towards keeshonden...
