Very Far AFK
Dec. 2nd, 2004 02:33 pmI'm leaving in half an hour, first to London where I'll see some friends (hopefully) and crash on someone's floor, then tomorrow morning with the bus down to Porthsmouth, and tomorrow afternoon with another bus up to Hull. From where on I shall not be seen on land for about 2 weeks or so.
If you want to contact me, now is too late :-D A text message will arrive sooner or later (when we're within range of land and I remember to bring the phone above deck) but I'm effectively cut off for 2 weeks, and I can't say the idea does not appeal :-)
I may at some point ask someone to post a text message from me as a reply to this post. Apart from that, see you in 2 weeks, keep praying for good wind and weather, and I expect to have an excellent time.
signing off,
Arwen

Date: 2004-12-12 02:39 am (UTC)“In Vigo now; 17 degrees, sunny and nice. We are SO lucky with the weather. I made some great sunrise photos :-)”
Also, I've been told that a report of the voyage thus far will be uploaded to the Tall Ships website soon, at the reports page.
If for some reason the direct link doesn't work, go to www.TallShips.org, and click through to "Voyages" → "Voyage Reports and Archives".

Date: 2004-12-17 11:12 am (UTC)It might be that some systems are a bit picky about the "Short" part of "Short Message Service", and I tend to use my character allowance to the max — 459 chars on my phone (that's another thing: some phones allow extra-long messages). I don't think that's really it, I can't see how it could be, but you just never know.
I never did put up your last message. Shame on me. Well, then, here it is now (from 2004-12-14, 20:44 GMT):
“Last night, everyone's down the pub and I.. am on gangplank watch! Strange thought to be home tomorrow - ship has become the world.”
To which I replied:
“Wouldn't that be a good opportunity to commandeer the ship? ;-) Or at least draw the gangplank in and only let the other crew aboard if they go and fetch you a pint <g> I'd put your message up on LJ, but I'm 20kmAFK...”
And now you know.
The report seems to be up now, BTW. Have only skimmed through it so far, but it looks very good!
