The Arwen Has Landed
Sep. 17th, 2005 10:10 pmTo summarise the past week: MIB, afwashaasje, Danish Quality (sail) Furling, 'SmoKo', Pannenkoekentochtje, fijn stukje zeilen (inc. snobby accent), tacking the seasick people on deck (as in 'you do the sheets, you the tacks, you guys on the braces, you tack the seasick'), "Get a seastow on the brammen!" - "What's a seastow?" - "Quick-and-dirty stow, Stad Amsterdam style. Grab, grab, grab, gasket." - "Ah, *that* kind of sea-stow", "Where can I give orders to set more sail?", dingdonging, stewardess duty, stunsails for captain Pieter's last day, shorts and heavy-weather suits worn in one day, "Washdown!", passengers in stiletto heels, cleaning the deck toilet with the pressurehose ("I did say 'lee railing!' but it was too late"), passenger: "you're really just at the wheel for show, right?" - "Yes, I'm just turning it a bit because it's comforting for our guests."
Also: "Sailing is our business. Cleaning is what we do."
I may or may not explain some of that later.
