Star-struck
May. 17th, 2004 09:01 amYou know what's nice about endurance riding as a sport? That me, inexperienced newbie, can ride together with someone like Marjolein Vos, who is part of the Dutch 5 top riders and finisher of many 160-kilometre rides. And she was incredibly nice.
It was only a few kilometres I rode with her as she was on another (longer) route than I was, but when I ran into her again later in the ride, when I was just checking my map to make sure I was okay, she called "You're on the right track, don't worry!"
Which is so cool. There's no sport where national (and international, she was in the team that came in bronze at the European championships in Ireland last year) level riders can be so close to basis-sport riders.
I had a fabulous ride, Rowan didn't drink but ate well and was okay, and we came in 10th! out of 50. Which is *very* good indeed for a Welsh Cob, because they don't have a lot of 'easy' speed. There was a small prize, but I missed it as my parents wanted to go home. Shame...
We rode 11.804 km/hr over 38 kilometres.
