I'm discovering a thing or two about dieting and what the body thinks of it. In the past few days - I've been doing a little test with meal replacers - I've found out this:

The feeling of 'hunger' consist of two parts.

One is the stomach, which tells you something very abstract. "I'm empty" or "I'm full".
The second part is your head, and that is why 'hunger' is so complicated. Your head insists that eating has to do with certain smells and tastes and with chewing. A meal replacer comes as a bar or shake, both sweet. They fill the stomach and provide the body with enough energy to function. So I eat one, and stomach says "okay, I'm full".
But my head insists that a meal involves scents and savoury tastes, and chewing. So when my stomach says "Okay, I'm full" my head says "Don't be an idiot! We haven't even EATEN anything!"

Which is why I keep feeling hungry even though my stomach is full and my body provided for. Weird, innit? I thought it was kind of interesting, anyway. I also felt terribly peckish when coming home from the hairdressers and made a nice noodle soup with some salami in it. Because while losing weight would be nice, I don't intend to lose my mind as well.

I'm told you use up more energy eating lettuce than you get from eating it. I assume this is why my body reports that there's something not-food in what I'm eating if there's lettuce involved.
