Slight squee
Apr. 8th, 2006 02:01 pmThe last time I spared a thought for Vin Diesel was when I saw the poster for.. whatsit... The Pacifier. Before that I thought he was kind of hot, had talent and voice to match and had been in Pitch Black (which blew me away). He got himself stuck in a bunch of unfortunate MTV-flick action things and I tuned out. Then I saw the Pacifier poster and went "That's it. Don't bother with him. He's going to spend the rest of his career doing cardboard action characters and painful tough-guy cliches. This dude has talent, and he's wasting it! He directed his own short and it went to Sundance, for God's sake!"
Then just now I saw the trailer for 'Find me Guilty' and went from "Huh? Vin?" to "Vin??" "Vin, is that YOU??". I'm so surprised that it warrants a slight squee. He has hair, he's toned down from muscle-bound to just nicely solid, he wears a slightly scruffy suit and he ACTS. It's all good. The best part is that it in no way caters to the hordes of teenaged MTV-watching girls that adopted him after the racing film.. (whatsit..) and the MTV-James Bond thing.
So well done Mr. Diesel. Stick with this trend. Show us that you have more than a good body and a hot voice.
